What Western man was doing in the 1240s

This is the interior of Sainte Chapelle, a chapel built in the 1240s for the kings of France:

Here's another view:

  1. More accurately what a few elite Western men were spending their money on. Granted better than our idiot elites can manage for the most part.

Still your average Western man of that period while smarter and hardier than we ever give them credit for, were skilled but uneducated people living mostly in wattle and daub huts and working the land.

    1. And clearly that was a good thing, considering it freed up their elites to do things like this instead of worrying about managing public opinion.
