Oregon shooting

Very sad to see news of the shooting in Oregon. There is only patchy information about the gunman so far, but it appears that he graduated from a special high school (Switzer Learning Academy) that caters for students whose emotional issues prevent them attending a regular school. In other words, it is likely that he had longstanding mental health issues. Disturbingly he appears to have singled out Christian students during his attack.

  1. Apparently, the shooter singled out Christian students because he disliked religion in general (was an atheist).

  2. While I would sympathise with the citizens of the U.S. resisting the attempts of Obama and the rest of the liberal would-be-tyrants to disarm them and thus clear the way for tyranny, surely it should be possible to devise a way to prevent the murderously insane from assembling military arsenals?

  3. Mark,

The killer is black. His mother is black. The Los Angeles Times newspaper is trying to portray this black man as a "white supremacist". The media always have to maintain the narrative, which is "Evil White Man terrorizing non-whites" Also, the killer specifically targeted Christians.

    1. Disappointed but not surprised. Same thing happened with George Zimmerman whose photos mysteriously became whiter over time.

    2. The wiki page on the shooting also mentions the white supremacist claim:

  4. Anne Coulter blames America's laissez-faire attitude to dealing with seriously mentally disturbed young males:

"According to a 2002 report [PDF] by Central Institute of Mental Health for the European Union, the number of involuntarily detained mental patients, per 100,000 people, in other countries looks like this:
    •Austria, 175
    •Finland, 218
    •Germany, 175
    •Sweden, 114
    •England, 93

The absolute maximum number of mental patients per 100,000 people who could possibly be institutionalized by the state in the U.S.—voluntarily or involuntarily—is: 17."

    1. Interesting statistics, thank you. You have to wonder if some of the mentally disturbed young males end up being detained within the prison system instead.
