Photoshopped for Sweden

A toy catalogue distributed in Denmark had to be photoshopped for Sweden:
A comparison between this year's Toys R Us catalogues in Sweden and Denmark, where Top Toy is also the franchisee, showed that a boy wielding a toy machine gun in the Danish edition had been replaced by a girl in Sweden.

Elsewhere, a girl was Photoshopped out of the "Hello Kitty" page, a girl holding a baby doll was replaced by a boy, and, in sister chain BR's catalogue, a young girl's pink T-shirt was turned light blue.

In Sweden you aren't supposed to make distinctions between what boys and girls might choose for toys. Equality there means boys playing with dolls as much as girls.

Why? As I've pointed out many times, under the principles of liberalism predetermined qualities like our sex aren't supposed to matter. Therefore it is thought progressive if sex distinctions are erased. So the Swedes are being good liberals in wanting the toy catalogues photoshopped.

And we could add on something else by way of explanation. Left liberals often argue that sex distinctions exist because the dominant group (men) created them as a means of establishing a privilege over an oppressed group (women). Therefore, the masculine way is the privileged one that women should try to get a piece of. Equality, in other words, means getting women to have more of the good stuff (the masculine way), whilst getting men to share some of the bad stuff (the feminine things).

If that's what you believe, then you'll like the idea of young boys being encouraged to play with dolls, whilst young girls fire Nerf guns. It will seem like a levelling out, in which the masculine good stuff is shared out more equally between men and women.

The traditionalist response? I don't think we're going to panic if a girl has a go playing with a Nerf gun. But in general we would see it as a positive thing for a boy to develop along masculine lines and a girl along feminine lines. If a boy adopts a masculine identity he will want to embody the masculine to the fullest and best degree - that will be his path of self-development. And this will help him to bear the burdens of a masculine role in his adult life, to win the respect of his male peer group and to attract the interest of a future wife. Hopefully, too, it will help to connect the identity of a man to a larger, meaningful good that is found within the masculine virtues.

And the same goes for a girl who adopts a feminine identity.

A lot of men and women do still follow a traditionalist path, although discussion of it is more muted than it once was. That has been a loss to Western culture.

  1. In my experience, boys don't have to be taught to like "masculine" things - trucks, guns, roughhousing - nor do girls have to be "taught" to like feminine things. Just the opposite!

Equality, in other words, means getting women to have more of the good stuff (the masculine way), whilst getting men to share some of the bad stuff (the feminine things).

But you notice the women only want the "good" parts of manhood (the supposed advantages) but not the "bad" parts (doing dull, dirty, and dangerous jobs). Women clamor to be CEOs and Supreme Cort Justices... they do not clamor to be sewer workers.

In 2011, there were 4,609 fatal workplace injuries in the USA. Of those deaths, 4,234 were men (92%). Women, you have not yet achieved equality in this important realm! Go baby, go!

  2. To be honest Mark, I think it's not seen as bad for girls (from childhood, through the teenage years and into early adulthood) to be somewhat tomboyish. After all, we're a culture in which it is not altogether uncommon for young women to be doing things like drinking beer, listening to rap music, smoking cannabis, and acting promiscuous. And women do many of the same jobs as men these days anyway. If some girls grow up doing a lot of the same things that boys do, that won't change that much.

It's seen as worse for boys to be effeminate though, without a doubt.

  3. All of this gender/sex war between men and women is a liberal view of society.

Everything just has to be EQUAL. Yet everything has to be INDIVIDUALISTIC. Preferably both at the same time.

But only the "male model" is good. What utter nonsense.

There's nothing wrong with being a woman or a man. People should acknowledge and celebrate the differences between men and women. Statistical/general trends that is.

The exception to the rule does not negate the rule but proves it. Averages please.

Yeah they do them half as competently with twice the whining.

I agree that it's considered a lot worse for a boy to be effeminate than for a girl to be tomboyish.

Even so I think some parents make a mistake in pushing their daughters along boyish lines.

It sets their daughters up for conflict at a critical time in their life. On the one hand, being attractive means being feminine; on the other hand, they've been brought up to be complimented on their more masculine traits and accomplishments.

Some women do manage to keep to a workable balance, but others lose so much feminine charisma that they come across as a bit flat to men. And then when it comes time for motherhood there is an exceptionally difficult transition that has to be made - they just haven't been brought up for this role.

  7. Elizabeth Smith: "Also what's with the liberal obsession with power?"

From the point of view of leftist women, power is something possessed by "the sort of high-flying alpha males we were all holding out for".

    Very sexy stuff!

Which means educating boys not to have or want power means educating them to be sexually undesirable.

    >>>and by them being "sexually undesirable" women won't be all swoon with them because liberal women believe that to acknowledge the feelings of needing a man is to believe their perceived "patriarchal oppressive notion that women need a man" and they can't have that.

"To the woman he said, "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing; with pain you will give birth to children. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.""

God wasn't kidding when he said he would make a woman desire for her husband and he will rule over her, liberals think by teaching men not to be strong rulers then the liberal women will finally have power. It will never happen, God has done this as a punishment for eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

  9. The last "Spy Kids" had the kids purposly stop in there tracks and switch places. they then had the boy go into the pink shuttle and the girl into the powder blue shuttle. At the end of the ride the pink looked more red and the blue appeared dark. This was clearly a political message.
Get them while they're young and make everything political.
